ISLAMABAD (Online) – A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking removal of President Mamnoon Hussain for promulgating an ordinance to privatise the PIA.

Shahid Orakzai said, in his petition, submitted that the ordinance promulgated by the president regarding privatisation of the national flag carrier was in violation of article 89 of the constitution. “No emergency situation prevails in the country and the ordinance has been promulgated in haste. The ordinance has infringed on the right of legislation by parliament,” he said.
The petitioner has raised the question if the president could promulgate an ordinance under article 46 of the constitution while bypassing the parliament.

He prayed the court to order removal of the president from his office for violating the constitution.
President Mamnoon and the law secretary have been made respondents in the petition.
