Dense fog in Punjab, other parts of the country affects road and air traffic

LAHORE – Dense fog engulfed several parts of the country including Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar on Saturday morning, affecting life in three provinces. Road, rail and air traffic were affected at various places with flights cancelled and trains rescheduled.

According to media reports, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced their decision to close Allama Iqbal International Airport till 9 am on the back of heavy fog that descended on Lahore.

Similarly, due to zero visibility, the motorway police have suspended the Lahore-Sheikhupura highway and Faisalabad-Pindi-Bhattian section of the motorway till the fog settles down.

The visibility is reduced to zero as fog blanketed National Highway from Chichawatni to Rahim Yar Khan and in Sahiwal.

Peshawar-Rashki interchange has also been closed down by the motorway police, as fog surrounds Peshawar.

Meanwhile, poor visibility due to fog is also reported from Shahrah-e-Faisal’s airport signal up till Malir Halt in Karachi.

Super Highway, DHA City and its surrounding areas are also facing zero visibility.

Railway officials said that some trains to and from Lahore and other destinations were running behind schedule.

Met officials here said that the foggy weather would prevail over the next few days.
