ISLAMABAD- A fire that broke out in the Press Information Department (PID) near Zero Point in the capital on Wednesday and engulfed the entire building was doused with no loss of life being reported.
The record room of the PID was completely burnt as a result of the fire which started on the sixth floor and quickly engulfed the entire building.
According to media reports, the fire was caused after the explosion of a gas cylinder, with nine fire tenders rushing to the site to extinguish the blaze.
Fire Department officials said the presence of papers, ink and other chemicals inside the building fuelled the blaze.
The building is owned by Benevolent Funds (BF) and also houses the offices of PID and the Director General of Federal Audit.
Police said the building has been evacuated and there was no loss of life.
Many workers who stranded in the building were rescued with the help of firemen.
