LAHORE – With an aim to bring changes into prevailing local bodies system, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed his stronghold provinces, Kyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, to finalize the draft within 48 hours.
The prime minister gave the deadline during his Lahore visit on Sunday when he was given a detailed presentation about the new local bodies system. While addressing the Punjab cabinet session, he said that the ministers should work around the week.
Besides emphaisizing a need to improve Zakat distribution system, Khan said that a complaint office should be established at the CM office to resolve the problems of people and ensure transparency.
Talking about the fire incidents at official buildings, he called for setting up a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate the loss of government record in such incidents.
PM said that the real change will take place by devolution of power to the masses.
Following the PM’s meeting with the Punjab cabinet, a separate meeting with CM USman Buzdar and other officials, federal information minister Fawad Chaudhry that the prime minister had finalised three basic principles – simplification of LG System, holding direct elections and empowering elected representative – in order facilitate the public.
Like changes in KP, PM Imran wanted to resize the union councils in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan to improve the administrative system.
A question regarding holing or not holding direct mayor elections at tehsil or district level is yet to be addressed, he said, adding that the respective ministries have been assigned targets to come forward with final draft within two days.
