Panama Papers aftermath: President Mamnoon says corrupt elements eventually get caught

LONDON – In another blunt commentary, President Mamnoon Hussain said on Friday that the corrupt elements could escape but only for a few days before they are finally apprehended.

Talking to the media in London where he arrived on a three-day tour, the outspoken president said he stands by his 2016 statement in which he had said that the Panama Leaks were ‘God sent’.

The corrupt can never escape the punishment as it is God’s law, he said in response to this prophecy on Panama Papers.

The president said he has always been a proponent of accountability, however, hastened to add that it should be a ‘good’ one.

Regarding his meeting with Sharif family members, Mamnoon said he desired to meet imprisoned Nawaz Sharif at PIMS, however, the plan could not be materialized.

He, however, affirmed that he will meet cancer suffering Begum Kulsoom Nawaz. The president also hoped that Pakistan will progress in days to come.

On the other hand, PML-N leader Mushahidullah clarified the statement of the president and said he was not talking about the Sharif family.

There are a lot of corrupt people in the sitting government who are being summoned by NAB. The president was referring to these people, he added.
