Shahid Afridi grills Ahmad Shehzad, Umar Akmal for New Zealand T20 series loss

PESHAWAR (Staff Report) – Pakistani T20 skipper Shahid Afridi has said that team’s overall performance against New Zealand was disappointing and players like Ahmad Shehzad and Umar Akmal failed to perform well in T20 series.

Addressing a press conference, Afridi said that if players like Ahmad Shahzad and Umar Akmal would not perform well, who would come forward? We have no other other players, hence we can predict the future of Pakistani cricket from the performance of these players, he added.

To a question the skipper responded that his personal performance during T20 series against New Zealand was satisfactory.

The team players need to pay more attention to cricket as they have been given enough chances now, nobody gets so many chances to play, he said to another question.

Shahid Afridi also said that he would speak to team management at players’ performance in New Zealand tour ahead of T20 World Cup.

On the occasion he also announced to start a Talent Hunt Campaign to recruit young cricketers for a cricket academy. The selected players will be given training and stadium facilities and they will be well equipped according to international standard, he said.

It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Pakistan a three match series to New Zealand with 2-1, where the Black Caps beat Green Shirts by 10 wickets and 95 runs in two games. The 95-runs defeat is Pakistan’s biggest defeat by runs in T20 format.
