KARACHI – The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday sent MQM leader and prime candidate for mayor of Karachi, Waseem Akhtar, to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
The decision against him came in two cases registered at the Malir police station and Sachal police station, respectively.
On a plea to provide him B Class in jail, the court issued a notice and ordered presentation of the challan on Wednesday.
The court, while refusing to order remand of Waseem Akhtar for holding a protest rally outside the Chief Minister House, remarked that further investigations into the case should be conducted in jail.
Waseem Akhtar was arrested along with MQM’s Rauf Siddiqui, Pak Sarzameen Party’s Anis Qaimkhani and PPP’s Abdul Qadir Patel on July 19 after the ATC rejected their pre-arrest bail applications.
The accused are facing charges of allegedly asking Dr Asim Hussian, a former petroleum minister and ex-president Asif Zardari’s close aide, to provide treatment and shelter to alleged terrorists and gangsters at the North Nazimabad and Clifton branches of Ziauddin Hospital.
