Zimbabwe, who have had a disappointing run in International cricket off late, finally had some reason to smile as they registered their first win of the tournament beating West Indies by five runs via the Duckworth/Lewis method.
The win not only gave them the extra confidence but also ensured their progress into the final of the tournament with eight points from four games as compared to West Indies who eventually finished with seven points from their full complement of games.
Batting first the hosts put on 218 runs in 49 overs and that they got there was thanks to the brilliance of Sikandar Raza who scored an unbeaten 76 runs while Tendai Chisoro smashed 42 off just 35 balls.
Chisoro then starred with the ball, picking up two crucial wickets to limit the visitors batsman to just 124 of 27.3 overs, eventually winning the game by five runs thanks to the D/L method. Coach Heath Streak will expect the same fight from his team on Sunday as Zimbabwe look for a rare limited overs series win against International opposition. Their opponents on the day Sri Lanka come into the final after scraping past West Indies in their final group game by one run, but are the definite favourites to win on Sunday.-Online
