India failed to secure objective through belligerent rhetoric against Pakistan: Maleeha Lodhi

WASHINGTON – Pakistan’s Representative at the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi says India has failed to secure its objective through its belligerent rhetoric against Pakistan.

In an interview on Saturday, she said India’s recent aggression on the Line of Control and threats against Pakistan are aimed at diverting the world attention from the blatant human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and intimidating Pakistan.

Maleeha Lodhi said Pakistan had been raising the issue of grave human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir and the provocations on the Line of Control at the international forums.

Pakistan’s Ambassador at the United Nations said she has briefed the UN Security Council on the situation in Occupied Kashmir, and also talked to the senior UN officials about the recent attack on a passenger bus in Azad Kashmir, which claimed lives of 11 people.

She said the UN SSecretary-General has expressed concern over the tension on the LoC and also called for de-escalating the situation. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has also twice called for access to Occupied Kashmir.

Maleeha Lodhi said she has urged the world body to ensure effective role of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan because India is not allowing them to perform there. She said UNMOGIP should probe the incidents taking place on the LoC.
