Pakistani artists banned from Bollywood by cine workers body

MUMBAI – Pakistani artists and technicians have been banned from displaying their skills in Bollywood industry by Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).

The ban placed by the film industry worker’s union in Mumbai on Thursday is unanimous and would prohibit Pakistani artists from performing in the films as well as TV serials produced by Indian producers in any language.

The association cited ‘war like situation unleashed by Pakistan’ as a reason for the ban alleging that numerous soldiers and common men were killed due to same situation.

“We stand by our security forces and their families in this hour of crisis and believe in Nation comes first,” states a press release issued by FWICE.

Bearing the signatures of President Shri. Birendra Nath Tiwari and Hon. Gen. Secretary Shri. Ashok Dubey, the ban notice has been forwarded to all affiliates and producers’ association as well.

Pakistani artists including Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Fawad Khan, Imran Abbas, Sajal Ali, Adnan Siddiqui, Mahira Khan, Urwa Hocane and many others have performed in different Bollywood films.

The relations between the two countries become strained frequently on political front, however, artists also face the brunt of tension sporadically.
