PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session on Tuesday had already been marred by chaos as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers protested the arrival of Baldev Kumar, the alleged killer of PTI’s Sooran Singh, in the provincial assembly, but the situation worsened after one MPA threw a shoe at the latter.
Just after Kumar s/o Nanak Chand, a resident of Zamankhel, Barikot, Swat, reached the KP assembly on the orders of Peshawar High Court to take oath of MPA, PTI’s lawmaker Arbab Jahandad hurled a shoe at him to protest the oath-taking.
Later, the lawmakers staged a walkout and the oath-taking ceremony couldn’t take place.
Last week, PTI-led provincial government reportedly reached an agreement with Baldev Kumar, the alleged killer of deceased minority lawmaker Suran Singh, to secure his vote for the party during Senate election.
In a video message on social media, Sooran Singh’s son Aji alleged that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Speaker Asad Qaiser had reached an agreement with Kumar binding the provincial government to withdraw a case at the apex court in return for Kumar’s vote for PTI in upcoming Senate elections.

He suggested that the provincial government should have challenged Peshawar High Court’s judgment of Baldev Kumar’s release at the Supreme Court of Pakistan rather than supporting and having a deal with the killer of father.
MPA Soran Singh, a special assistant to the chief minister on minority affairs, was gunned down near his house in Pir Baba area of Buner district on April 23, 2016. The police had arrested Baldev Kumar and two others in connection with the killing within 24 hours of the incident and all the accused were sent to jail.
After the arrest of Kumar and two other persons, the police officials at a press conference had alleged that Kumar wanted to become MPA and that was why he killed Sooran Singh.
After the 2013 general elections, the PTI had submitted to the ECP the list of candidates for seats reserved for non-Muslims in the house with Soran Singh being its first priority and Baldev Kumar the second.
The deceased Sikh lawmaker’s son said his father was killed for carrying forward PTI’s manifesto while the same party has elected Singh’s ‘killer’ as an MPA.
Despite the fact that Kumar is facing a murder trial in Anti Terrorism Court, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently directed the provincial assembly for administering an oath to Kumar while PHC has upheld ECP’s order.

Last week, a man hurled a shoe at Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal while he was addressing a workers’ convention in Narowal.
The man, Bilal Haris, stood up from his seat as Iqbal arrived on stage to address the convention in Aliabad area. Workers at the convention grabbed the man, who was handed over to the police. The minister, however, directed the police not to take legal action against the man, officials said.
He was subsequently released by the law enforcers.
