LAHORE – The Supreme Court on Saturday stopped Dr Tauqir Shah, the former principal secretary of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, from travelling abroad.
Dr Syed Tauqir Shah was removed from his post following the Model Town clash between Punjab Police and Minhajul Quran protesters that left 14 people dead and dozens injured in 2014. Soon after, the federal government had approved his appointed as Pakistan’s Ambassador to World Trade Organization (WTO).
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, while hearing a suo motu case of Shah’s appointment as WTO ambassador, questioned how he was appointed to a global organisation while his name was mentioned in the Model Town tragedy.
The top judge also refused to read a performance report of the ambassador, a private TV channel reported.
