ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has granted approval to give the status of an interim province to Gilgit-Baltistan, local media reported on Wednesday.
The prime minister on Tuesday chaired a meeting in which a reforms committee presented the recommendations regarding the northernmost administrative territory in Pakistan which shares the border with China.
Law minister Farogh Naseem, the attorney general of Pakistan, governor Gilgit-Baltistan and others were also present in the meeting.
After accepting the recommendations, the premier also directed the committee to present the proposal before the federal cabinet.
The committee formed to bring constitutional and structural reforms in the administrative territory held its second session on Tuesday, which was presided over by Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs Ali Ameen Khan in Islamabad.
The lower committee presented its recommendations during the meeting. The committee member later called on the premier at the Prime Minister’s Office.
