NEW YORK – Much to India’s chagrin, China has yet again blocked a proposal at the United Nations to list Jaish-e-Muhammad’s Chief Masood Azhar as a globally designated terrorist.
China who is often called ‘counteragent’ of the region in the context of India-Pakistan tensions and rivalry, on earlier occasions too, had defended its second technical hold to prevent a UN ban on Pakistan-based JeM chief Masood Azhar saying there were “different views” on India’s application.
India expressed concern at China’s stand and said it expected Beijing to be more understanding.
“The decision by China to block the proposal to list Masood Azhar as terrorist is surprising as China herself is affected by the scourge of terrorism,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.
“Chinese action confirms the prevalence of double standards in the fight against terrorism,” he said.
