ISLAMABAD – An accountability court adjourned on Monday the hearing of two corruption references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, awaiting the instructions from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Accountability Court-I Judge Mohammad Bashir resumed hearing of Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, and offshore companies, including Flagship Investments.
During the hearing, the judge asked when the high court will take up the petitions filed by the former premier, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar, who are currently serving their terms in the Adiala Jail, against the Avenfield verdict.
A secondary counsel of Nawaz Sharif informed the court that the appeals will be heard on Tuesday.

Later, Judge Bashir observed that he would wait for the IHC’s instructions tomorrow and adjourned the hearing till August 1.
At the last hearing, Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Harris reiterated his stance that the same judge who had already given a verdict in one of the three corruption references could not hear the other cases.
The judge remarked that he has written about the matter to the IHC, adding that transferring the case to another court does not come under his jurisdiction. The hearing was then adjourned until July 30.
