LAHORE – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is on the verge of securing a majority in the Punjab provincial legislature, to outshine the longtime rivals, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz.
According to the party spokesperson, Fawad Chaudhry, the PTI will achieve the 140-mark by tonight as the talks to form the government were underway.
“Another four independent candidates will enter party fold soon. The PTI will announce its chief ministerial candidate as soon as a majority has been secured,” vowed Fawad who was once the potential candidate for the top slot.
The party’s tally in the Punjab assembly stood at 123 seats trailing behind Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which had won 129.

However, the Imran Khan-led party is welcoming independents in huge numbers, somewhat confirming that PTI might be able to elect its own CM in the province.
According to well-placed sources, eight Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) legislators will pledge support to the PTI and party leaders Chaudhry Shujaat and Pervaiz Elahi are expected to arrive at Bani Gala today.
On the other hand, PML-N has also started efforts to form a government in Punjab for which they have reached out to former security czar, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
