KARACHI – Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Nehal Hashmi came into the limelight on Wednesday when a video surfaced in which he can be seen threatening judiciary in a veiled reference.
The video that went viral on the internet shows a disgruntled Senator Nehal warning rivals and ‘some honourable officials associated with top institutions’ of dire consequences if they continued their concerns with the accountability of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“Whoever is asking for accountability will retire tomorrow and we will deal with them,” insinuated Hashmi in a veiled threat to the top judiciary currently probing the ruling Sharif family in the backdrop of Panama papers.

“Remember, you are in service now but you will retire one day, we will make it hard for you and your family to live in Pakistan,” he said stirring controversy across the power corridors.
Soon after the speech was widely shared on social media, Nehal was lampooned for openly threatening the examiners of the ruling family.
On the other hand, Nehal stated in a clarification that he did not refer to the Joint Investigation Team members or judges of the supreme court in his speech that he made on May 28.
“My speech was quoted out of context,” noted Nehal Hashmi.
Following the speech, Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb clarified that Nehal’s statement did not reflect the policy of the party and so it was his personal comment.
“Nehal did not represent PML-N and so his statement was inappropriate,” said Maryam Aurangzeb.
She affirmed that the speech of Nehal Hashmi had nothing to do with the party, government or Sharif family adding that stern action would be taken against the senator.
The prime minister house has also sought clarification from the party’s Sindh stalwart regarding the outrageous speech.
Meanwhile, senior journalist Hamid Mir while talking to Geo News expressed that Nehal should have avoided issuing such statement.
