Daniel Craig to play James Bond for the fifth time

LOS ANGELES – British actor Daniel Craig will star for the fifth time as James Bond in the still untitled 25th movie of the spy thriller franchise set for release next year, the producers said on Thursday.

The actor had in 2017 confirmed that he will reprise the role of James Bond one last time, ending months of speculation. Craig made the revelation during an appearance on the U.S. TV program “The Late Show” in August 2017.

Asked by host Stephen Colbert whether he would return as James Bond, Craig responded: “Yes”, to cheers from the audience.

Craig has previously appeared four times as the spy with a taste for martini: in “Casino Royale”, “Quantum of Solace”, “Skyfall” and “Spectre”. Craig’s return had been subject to furious speculation. In 2015 he told Time Out magazine: “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists… We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

Asked if he meant for good, he told the magazine: “For at least a year or two… If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

Craig later distanced himself from those remarks, attributing them to being tired after a gruelling shoot for 2015 Bond movie “Spectre.”

Daniel Craig starrer is being titled as “Bond 25”. It is scheduled to be released on April 8, 2020.
