Celebrities speak out about Amazon rain forest crisis

The world reacted in shock and horror after seeing photos of Brazil’s Amazon rainforest in smoke and flames.

Large-scale fires continue to spread throughout a wide swath of Amazon rainforest in the northwest of Brazil. Brazil’s space research center (INPE) said this week that the number of fires in Brazil are 80% higher than last year.

Using the hashtag #PrayForAmazonia, people around the world are trying to spread awareness about the seemingly unstoppable blaze, including a handful of celebrities.

Armeena Khan, Madonna, Yasir Hussain, and others took to social media to share their concerns over the ongoing fire.

Her second post read: “The Amazon has been burning for 3 weeks and I’m just finding out because of the lack of media coverage. This is one of the most important ecosystems on earth! Spread awareness!”
