ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday held a high-level meeting to review the internal security situation in the country.
The meeting attended by Army chief General Raheel Sharif discussed internal security and NAP implementation.
The upcoming talks between Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval were also discussed during the meeting.
Further, sources said the launch of a ground offensive in North Waziristan Agency’s mountainous Shawal Valley came under discussion during the high-level meeting.
The meeting comes a day after the premier’s one-day visit to Karachi where he confirmed the security situation in the metropolis has significantly improved since the Karachi Operation.
With the Karachi Operation approaching two years since its initiation, its progress was reviewed in the meeting. PM Nawaz, during Thursday’s visit vowed to make the Karachi operation successful at all costs, offering any kind of assistance for eliminating terrorism out of the city.
The meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, PM’s Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi and other high level officials.
