ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Adviser on Accountability and Interior Mirza Shahzad Akbar has stepped down from his position, it was reported on Saturday.
Akbar, a lawyer and legal adviser, was appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability in August, 2018.
This year in July, the status of special assistant to the PM on accountability and interior Mirza Shahzad Akbar was upgraded to that of an adviser with the authority of a federal minister.
Akbar, who was also the chief of the Assets Recovery Unit, earlier enjoyed the status of a minister of state.
Mirza Shahzad Akbar is a former deputy prosecutor for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He is also the founder, legal director and a trustee of the Foundation for Fundamental Rights, an organisation that works “towards the advancement, protection and enforcement of fundamental human rights”.
