Brain drain:1.34m skilled Pakistanis get overseas jobs in 5 years

ISLAMABAD (APP) – The tendency in emigration statistics has depicted that demand for Pakistani skilled labour in various fields abroad is increasing and reached 1.34 million during last five years.

The year-wise statistics of skilled manpower on Sunday revealed that during 2010 the number of skilled Pakistani proceeded abroad was 139,142 and in 2011 the number was 171,672.

Similarly, in 2012 the number reached 261,531 skilled Pakistanis who went abroad, in 2013 the number of skilled Pakistanis was 263,138, in 2014 the number was 287,649 and during year 2015, the number of skilled Pakistanis who proceeded abroad for employment was 220,411.

It was further revealed that the fields in which skilled Pakistanis went to various countries included goldsmith, secretary/ stenographer, designer, foreman/supervisor, painter, plumber, mechanic, electrician, steel fixer, welder, clerk/typist, technician, carpenter and drivers.

According to Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development the government was making efforts to train Pakistani manpower to meet domestic as well as international requirements and the organizations like National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and National Training Bureau (NTB) are imparting various skills/training through their approved and accredited training centers.

So far NAVTTC has trained 640,000 persons in different trades during last two years.
