Lahore ranked World Most Polluted City with Hazardous Air Quality Levels

LAHORE – Pakistan’s second largest metropolis Lahore topped grim list of cities with poorest air quality, with AQI soaring to 200 on Thursday.

The provincial capital again emerged as most polluted cities, according to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) reports. The city’s air quality has reached hazardous levels, with an AQI touching above 217. Specific locations have reported even higher readings, including Thokar Niaz Baig at 272 and Syed Maratab Ali Road at 259.

In light of the severe pollution, authorities have imposed Section 144, prohibiting certain gatherings to safeguard public health.

The Met Office predicted there would be no rain in the coming 24 hours, further complicating the situation. Following Lahore, Karachi ranks 17th among the most polluted cities globally. In Pakistan, Karachi holds the 5th position, with particulate matter levels recorded at 77.

The weather forecast for Karachi suggests partially cloudy conditions, with hot and humid weather persisting. The minimum temperature recorded is 27.6 degrees Celsius, with a high of 35 degrees anticipated and humidity levels at 78 percent.

As air quality continues to decline, health officials are urging residents to take precautions to mitigate exposure to harmful pollutants.
