Pakistan marks Constitution Day

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Constitution Day is being observed today (Sunday) with the renewed pledge to uphold supremacy of the Constitution.

The current constitution was presented in the National Assembly on this day (April 10) in 1973, and was unanimously approved by all political parties on April 19, 1973. The constitution was promulgated on August 14, 1973.

The 1973 Constitution has 280 articles and in all 22 amendments have been introduced to it so far. The constitution also includes a separate chapter related to fundamental rights of citizens ranging from freedom of expression to right to education.

In a message on the occasion, Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani said the nation should pledge to counter all attempts to sabotage democratic, parliamentary and federal character of the constitution.
