AIOU to hold int l conference on energy, climate degradation on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – An international conference on energy and climate degradation will take place here on Tuesday (13 April) at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).

It will be a three-day mega event, to be attended by over 300 academicians and researchers from home and abroad. Scholars of number of countries including China, USA, Italy, Iran, Malaysia, South Africa and Turkey will participate in the moot.

Dr. Nejat Veziroglu, President International Association for Hydrogen Energy will be the chief guest on the occasion, said a news release issued here on Sunday.

The participants will present their research papers, suggesting ways and means for development of climate-friendly energy resources. It is follow-up of 21st UN Climate change conference recently held in Paris, said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while highlighting the significance of the conference at a briefing session.

The participants will present their research-based recommendations to implement the declaration of Paris summit that was also attended by the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

They will make critical assessment of environmental problems while giving their academic input to overcome energy shortage and to reduce greenhouse carbon omissions as well.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that the University has focused on social-related issues so as to become a helping hand in improving the living conditions of the people.

Such conferences help to highlight research-based findings and implementing the same through relevant institutions and industrial houses, he added.

The conference is being arranged by the University’s Physics department was sponsored by Higher Education Commission, Atomic Energy Commission of Pakistan, National Centre for Physics and some other national institutions.

According to the Department’s chairman of Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas, an exhibition will also be arranged on the occasion to highlight the University’s recent discoveries in field of physics.
