PTI says PM bound to dissolve assemblies if rigging proved

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Sunday linked the return of party’s elected representatives in the assemblies to the government’s notification on formation of the judicial commission to probe the 2013 general elections rigging.

Sharing the details of the agreement the PTI had with the government, former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told a group of reporters here that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was bound to dissolve the assemblies if the rigging allegations were proved.

He also said the judicial commission had the right to take assistance from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) among other institutions.

He said all the political parties must have confidence on the chiefs of NADRA, FIA and Election Commission.

Qureshi also announced that the PTI will hold an intra-party poll in order to restore the true spirit of democracy.

After a session of the party’s executive council, he said the party has decided to follow the recommendations of the Justice (retired) Wajihuddin Ahmad-led commission that had asked for a intra-party re-election.

PTI chief Imran Khan will dissolve the party’s existing structure and announce interim office-bearers who will hold their post(s) till the new elections, Qureshi told the media, adding a new election commission will be announced within the next 48 hours that will conduct an election within the party.

He said the PTI was the only political party which conducted intra-party elections as it believed in the true spirit of democracy. Some irregularities were reported by the commission that led to the desolation of the party organisation, Qureshi concluded.
