Who said KP belongs to Afghans? Achakzai clarifies what he actually told media

ISLAMABAD: Clarifying an earlier statement of his that was published in an Afghan newspaper, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PK-MAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai has said that he was misquoted.

In a statement, Achakzai explained that he had not said the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) belonged to Afghans. In fact, he said, he had only said that there were historical linkages between the province and Afghanistan.

Earlier on Thursday, in an interview with the Afghanistan Times, Achakzai was quoted as saying, “If Afghans are harassed in other parts of Pakistan, they should come here to the Pakhtunkhwa province, where no one can ask them for refugee cards because it also belongs to them.”

The interview came just a week after Pakistani and Afghan forces exchanged fire at Torkham border after the former tried to build a border crossing to bar the unauthorised entry of Afghan nationals.
