ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Wednesday that Pakistan would cooperate with Britain in Imran Farooq murder case but as far as handing over any arrested suspect is concerned ‘we don’t have an extradition treaty with them’.
Nisar, while briefing the media about his recent meeting with British High Commissioner Philip Barton, clarified “It was not related to Altaf Hussain’s detention in United Kingdom or his interview with the Police”. The meeting was purely pre-planned and had nothing to do with MQM chief’s bail expiry, he added.
He rebutted the news of his briefing to British High Commission regarding Altaf Hussain’s interrogation in London. Neither did I beirf him nor I will to any other ambassador, he maintained.
Interior minister however said he discussed multiple matters with Barton, including Altaf’s money laundering case, while responding to a question.
The minister went on to say that Pakistan has played a key role in investigating the murder case of MQM leader Imran Farooq and we will continue cooperation.
He revealed that the murderers of Imran Farooq had no money and place to work; they were given financial assistance and visas to United Kingdom as well. He further added Pakistan has also got the information about company where they kept working.
Responding to a question whether the suspect arrested in Karachi for alleged involvement in Dr Imran Farooq’s murder, Nisar said, “I never said he was the prime suspect, I said he was the central character.”
“Moazzam Ali played a key role in facilitating the murder, securing a UK visa is not easy and he arranged it for the two suspected killers of the MQM leader,” Nisar further said.
