TEHRAN – Iran delivered a blunt message to Washington, with Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei warning that the United States must change its conduct and take concrete steps to honour the terms of an agreement.
The remarks came during Rezaei’s meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran, according to Iran’s Fars news agency. Rezaei made clear that Tehran remains deeply sceptical of Washington, stressing that US actions, not promises, would determine whether Iran believes the agreement is being implemented.
“America must change its behaviour and take practical actions regarding the implementation of the conditions of the agreement,” Fars quoted Rezaei as saying.
The warning comes as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high, with Iran demanding tangible evidence of US commitments.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf launched a separate challenge to Washington’s economic pressure campaign, claiming that Iran’s trading partners are refusing to let US statements dictate their relations with Tehran. In a post on X, Ghalibaf said messages from Iran’s commercial partners, along with their public statements, showed that they were continuing to disregard American warnings.
Ghalibaf also argued that Washington lacks the economic strength needed to further isolate Iran from the global economy.
His comments underline Tehran’s position that American pressure is failing to prevent Iran from maintaining trade and economic links with other countries.
Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Iran as Pakistan continued diplomatic and regional engagement aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region. The meeting between the Pakistani military chief and Iran’s senior security leadership also highlights Islamabad’s growing role in regional diplomatic efforts at a time of heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.
