PM Nawaz, General Raheel discuss Indian aggression at LoC, national security

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Monday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House, where they discussed the issues related to national and regional security.

The meeting is of great significance as the COAS is about to leave the office next month on his retirement.

Reliable sources told Daily Pakistan that four important issues were discussed between the top civil and military leaders.

They discussed the escalating tension between Pakistan and India, especially the recent violation at the Line of Control (LoC) by the Indian side. “The prime minister expressed confidence in the action of Pakistan Army in response to Indian ceasefire violations,” the sources said.

The second point of discussion was pertaining to Afghanistan and the situation on the western border.

The top civil-military leaders also discussed the ongoing military operation – Zarb-e-Azb – and implementation of National Action Plan (NAP). The prime minister was given a detailed account on NAP implementation by the country’s security forces.

According to the sources, the Army Chief also expressed his concern during the meeting over the leak of information regarding a secret security meeting false to a national newspaper, and termed it a breach of national security.

On October 7th, a Pakistani English daily – DAWN – published secret details of a meeting between top civil-military brass on National Security, which immediately brought the government’s wrath. An enquiry is ongoing in this regard, according to Interior Minister Ch Nisar.
