LAHORE – The Lahore police have decided to use biometric machines to identify suspects for ensuring security in the annual Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtema (congregation) in Raiwind, Lahore.
“The police will also use metal detectors, walkthrough gates, barriers and sniffing dogs for the security operation,” DIG Haider Ashraf told reporters on Friday.
Deputy Inspector General Operations Haider Ashraf has said that following their checking through biometric machines the participants will be allowed to enter the gathering.
He further said the participants who fail to prove their identification will be taken into custody at once.
The first phase of the largest religious gathering will be held from November 3 to 6 whereas the second phase will commence from November 10 to 13.
Last week, city police launched a major security sweep in the entire locality with the help of police commandos and officials of the Special Branch.
The city police were also using TV cameras to record footage of all the participants.
Tens of thousands of people attended the three-day congregation every year.
