Cold spell: Education minister reacts to demand for extended winter vacations

KARACHI – Sindh Minister for Education, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has refrained from announcing further winter vacations in cold weather, citing his fear of loss of education.

He stated this while responding to Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Khawaja Izharul Hassan’s request for extending winter vacations and changing the schedule of summer and winter vacations in the future due to climate change, on the floor of the Sindh Assembly House on Thursday.

“If further vacations are announced then that means that half the year will be spent in vacations,” he said.

Jam further said that out of 365 days of the year 122 days are already consumed by holidays.

He said that in some areas of Punjab recorded temperatures  were -2 degrees, but students were still continuing to go to school.

Jam further said that a committee has been constituted to review vacations and other different matters including non-fixed holidays and to extend morning timings in schools to allow students to easily reach their school in winter or summer seasons.- APP
