ISLAMABAD – On Thursday Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the appointment of Salahuddin Mehsud as Inspector General police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
Mr Mehsud, a Police Service of Pakistan officer belongs to South Waziristan Agency. He joined the police department in 1989 as an under-training ASP. He was promoted to BPS-21 in February this year. He has served in key positions including Peshawar SP (traffic), Charsadda and Bannu SP, Peshawar CID SP, Swat SSP, Frontier Reserve Police deputy commandant, and DIG Kohat.
Mr Mehsud also headed the counter terrorism department from January 2015 to 2016 during the Zarb-i-Azb operation and was appointed the AIG of the Special Branch in March last year.
AIG Ali Shah became the de facto police chief after former IG KPK Nasir Durrani completed his term on March 16.
The establishment division will issue a notification of Mehsood’s appointment as IGP later today.
A list of three officers was sent to the federal government for posting of the new IGP KP. The list included names of Akhtar Ali Shah, Salahuddin Mehsud and Inspector General National Highways and Motorway Police Shaukat Hayat.
