LAHORE – Indian citizen Dr Uzma, who tied the knot with Pakistani man from Buner, headed back to her country, a day after Islamabad High Court (IHC) gave her permission.
Dr Uzma arrived at Wagah Border on Thursday morning with Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Islamabad, from where she returned to her homeland.
The return came as IHC had accepted a plea on Wednesday, filed by her, granting her permission to return back to India. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani ruled that she could not be forced to live with her husband if she did not want to, and assured Uzma that she was free to return to her home country at any time.
The court also ordered that police provide her security till she reaches Wagah Border. The 20-year-old Uzma touched Indian soil as soon as she crossed Wagah border. Her brother Waseem also looked elated over the return her return.
“Very happy to hear that Uzma is back, but don’t know when she will be back in Delhi, her flight is delayed,” he said according to Times of India.

Uzma who arrived in Pakistan during the first week of May married Tahir but when both headed to Indian High Commission to get visa for India, Uzma sought refuge there.
Dr Uzma, in a statement before a magistrate, had accused her husband of harassment and claimed that she was forced to marry Tahir Ali, a Pakistani citizen, at gunpoint.
On the other hand, Tahir claimed he and Uzma, who belongs to New Delhi, fell in love with each other in Malaysia, after which she traveled to Pakistan on May 01 via the Wagah border.
Both, Uzma and Tahir had filed petitions in the IHC. Dr Uzma had filed a petition seeking permission to leave for India while her husband Tahir filed petition seeking a meeting with his wife and stopping her from leaving Pakistan.
According to the Pakistan High Commission, Dr Uzma’s immigration documents state that she traveled to Pakistan on a visit visa.
The Pakistani authorities declared that the Indian citizen did not disclose her plans to marry in Pakistan when she applied for the visa and instead expressed her intent to visit her relatives in Pakistan.
