Four policemen killed in Quetta gun attack

QUETTA (Web Desk) – At least four police personnel including a Sub-Inspector were killed in an attack by unidentified armed men in Pashtunabad area of Balochistan’s capital on Saturday morning.

Police sources said that an unknown group of people, who were riding on a van, opened fire at a police mobile in Mullah Salam Road area of Pashtoonabad. The policemen were on routine patrol when the miscreants attacked them, the sources added.

Three policemen were killed on the spot whereas one succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. Their bodies were brought to Civil Hospital Quetta for postmortem.

Those killed include an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), two constables and a driver.

According to sources, the assailants escaped unhurt after carrying out the attack. Police and Frontier Corps personnel reached the site and started an investigation into the incident. Shops in the area were closed after the incident.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have strongly condemned the attack and expressed condolences with the bereaved families.

Such incidents cannot weaken government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country, they said in their separate messages.

The prime minister has also directed the authorities concerned to apprehend the culprits at the earliest and bring them to the book.
