PTI tables resolution in Punjab Assembly condemning attack at Justice Ijaz residence

LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has tabled a resolution condemning an attack on Supreme Court judge Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, in Punjab Assembly today (Monday).

The resolution demanded that the concerned authorities should provide foolproof security to the judges to avoid such incidents in the future.

Two separate incidents of firing were reported on Saturday night and Sunday morning respectively at the residence – close to the house of Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif – of sitting judge of the apex court.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar immediately summoned Inspector General of police, Punjab in this connection and ordered him to monitor the situation himself.

Moreover, Punjab government has formed a Joint Investigation Team to probe the incident.

The team would be headed by Additional IG Punjab Mohammad Tahir whereas DIG Investigation Sultan Chaudhry, one member each from Military Intelligence, Inter-Service Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, Special Branch and Forensic Agency will also be part of it.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and ISPR chief have also condemned the attack on SC judge.

It is worth mentioning that Justice Ahsan was part of the five-member bench that heard the high-profile Panamagate case last year that led to the disqualification of the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
