Budget 2018-19: 10 increase in salaries, pension of federal employees

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has proposed an increase of 10 percent in salaries and pensions of the government employees in Budget 2018-19.

On Friday, Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail presented the sixth budget of the incumbent PML-N government with a total outlay of Rs 5.932 trillion.

Minimum pension

The minimum pension is raised from Rs6,00 to Rs10,000 according to the budget 2018-19.

Moreover, Rs 15,000 has been fixed for pensioners who are over 75 years of age.

Similarly, family pensions have also been increased from Rs 4500 to 7500.

Adhoc Relief Allowance

The federal government has announced 10% ad-hoc relief allowance for the civil and armed forces employees from July 2018.

House Rent

The recently appointed Finance Minister, Miftah Ismail also announced that the House rent ceiling and house rent allowance have also been increased by 50% percent each.

Overtime Allowance

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, in its last budget, has also proposed increasing overtime allowance for Dispatch Rider and staff car driver from Rs 40 to Rs 80 per hour.

Advance to Government Servants

The government has also proposed an allocation of Rs.12 billion for the provision of advance to government servants for house building and purchase of transport facility.

Performance Allowance

The government has also set aside Rs.5b for senior officers’ performance allowance, the details of which would be announced separately.

Earlier in 2017, the incumbent government had announced a 10 percent increase in the salaries of federal government employees under the budget 2017-18.

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail highlighted the efforts made by the government to revive the economy, which, according to him was in shambles after Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz assumed office.
