US school firing victim Sabika Sheikh laid to rest in Karachi

KARACHI – The funeral prayers of Sabika Sheikh – who was shot dead in Texas school shooting incident – were offered in Karachi on Wednesday.

Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Pak Sarzmeen Party (PSP) head Mustafa Kamal and other dignitaries participated in the prayers held at Hakeem Saeed Ground.

The dead body of 17-year-old girl arrived at the Karachi airport on early Wednesday morning. The flight carrying the body of Sabika Sheikh, 17, from Texas was delayed by at least a day, having previously been scheduled to land in Karachi during the early hours of Tuesday morning between 4-6: AM.

A party of Airport Security Force presented Guard of Honour to the deceased teenage girl at the airport from where her body was shifted to her house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Her family, relatives and others received the body amid tears and wailing.

Sabika Sheikh was buried in Azeempura Graveyard in the metropolis’ Shah Faisal Colony.

Sabika was among 10 people killed in Texas’s Santa Fe High School shooting on Friday morning. Sabika was an exchange student with Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme, which is funded by the US State Department. It provides scholarships for secondary-school students from countries with significant Muslim populations to spend one academic year in the US.
