Earthquake of magnitude 5.2 strikes southern Punjab

LAHORE – An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 struck southern Punjab on Sunday evening, triggering panic among residents in different cities.

Tremors were reported in DG Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Uch Sharif and Faisalabad, with people coming out of their homes in fear.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre of the 5.2-magnitude earthquake is 42 kilometres west of Dera Ghazi Khan. The depth of the quake was estimated to be 10km, USGS added.

According to the organisation, the earthquake struck at 19:21pm.

In May. Pakistan was rocked by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, which was recorded in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan region.

Tremors were felt across the country’s northern regions, including the federal capital, Abbottabad, Bajaur Agency, Manshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Jhang, Chitral, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Swat, Nowshera, Mianwali, Kotli, DG Khan, Okara, Kasur.
