Professor Adil Najam stresses investment in youth of Pakistan (Video)

LAHORE – The co-author of UNDP report on Pakistan National Human Development, Professor Adil Najam has said that the key take away from the report is to invest in the youth of Pakistan.

In an interview posted on his official Twitter account, he said the report tells that three ways more important than any other ways in which investment will pay off.

“Investment in quality education, meaningful engagement and gainful employment will pay off more”, he said. He said that those three investments are those that are going to pay off the most and that is the big takeaway.

He said that what is needed to do is to put young people inside every policy at policy at of every policy. “ One of the biggest things from a policy perspective that we are hoping for is that what is important to young people will become high politics”.

He said this narrative exists in many countries.

Dr Adil Najam is a Pakistani academic and intellectual who serves as the inaugural dean of the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, and previously served as vice-chancellor of the LUMS.

Born in Rawalpindi, Najam studied civil engineering at UET Lahore and received two Master’s degrees and his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in international environmental policy.

He is a prominent member of the Pakistani intelligentsia. He was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2008 by the President of Pakistan, and in February 2009, he was appointed to the Committee for Development Policy by the United Nations Secretary-General.
