PTI govt ends decades-old political censorship on PTV

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) government on Tuesday announced to make the state-owned Pakistan Television (PTV) fully independent in order to ensure impartiality.

Hussain said that the reforms are being introduced under the vision of the newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan, adding that clear instructions have been issued for a complete editorial independence on PTV and Radio Pakistan.

The development will end the black era in which the state-run television channel only gave coverage to the ruling party, ignoring the opposition parties.

It has long been accused of manipulating the facts in order to create a supportive environment for the ruling party.
