Hamza Ali Abbasi believes Item Numbers not decisive for movie success

LAHORE – Hamza Ali Abbasi is a popular star of Pakistan and he is in news these days after the success of his airforce based film, Parwaaz Hai Junoon (PHJ) in which he plays an Air Force pilot along with costars, Hania Aamir and Ahad Raza Mir.

Hamza has done comedy movies in the past too as Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, The actor is proud of the fact that his film does not have an item number and in an interview with BBC Asian Network, he once again stated that “item numbers have nothing to do with a film’s success.”

He also mentioned the titles of recent Pakistani releases, Abbasi stated they all have performed extremely well at the box office, without entailing item songs. “Tell me one single item number that has played a huge role in the success of a Pakistani film? None!”

The die-hard fan of PTI was previously a part of  JPNA , which he later called ‘crass.’ Surprisingly, the second instalment of the film, which replaced him with Fahad Mustafa, released on the same day as PHJ.

Clearing the reason behind his withdrawal from the blockbuster, Abbasi shared that “I left Jawani Phir Nahi Ani because it’s not a genre that I would (do).”

He further added that ” I like doing films that have a certain impact on the society.”
