KARACHI (Web Desk) – Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain on Wednesday deplored yesterday’s attack on PTI leader’s convoy by his party supporters in Karachi.
The MQM chief in his statement from London offered olive branch to opponents of PTI, saying that he would have no objection if Imran Khan held a peaceful public gathering in the city in connection with by-election on NA-246.
“If PTI holds rally elsewhere then MQM would cooperate with it but if they insist on holding their rally in Jinnah Ground, then MQM should be given time to make proper arrangement for protection of the monument and would request PTI to ensure its sanctity,” he said.
He said he did not want to blame anyone for this incident as his intention was noble and he wanted a free and fair election in a peaceful manner.
“In democracy, verbal confrontation, criticism and support between two national parties are common but both should not covert this into animosity or war-like fighting,” he said.
Altaf Hussain instructed officials and workers of his party to demonstrate patience and restraints and refrain from confrontation at all cost.
“MQM officials and workers should understand that they are the host and the Tehreek-e-Insaf is coming to contest election in their traditional constituency as a guest.”
Altaf Hussain requested Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to hold an emergency meeting of both parties to formulate a code of conduct for the bye-election.
