PML-N, PPP gain clear majority in Punjab and Sindh LB polls

LAHORE/KARACHI (Staff Report) – Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have emerged as leading parties with thumping majority in the first phase of Local Government elections in Punjab and Sindh respectively.

The first phase of LG poll contest was held in 12 districts of Punjab and 8 of Sindh.

According to unofficial results of 2696 seats in the Punjab, PML-N leads with 1192 seats while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) grabbed 285.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) bagged 47 while the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) secured 44 seats.

Independent candidates succeeded on 1065 seats in the province. Other parties have succeeded in securing 26 seats in the province. The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) secured 2 seats each.

In Sindh, PPP leads with 720 seats followed by Pakistan Muslim League-F with 74, independent candidates 174 and other parties  grabbed 25 seats.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) secured 11, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) bagged 4, and PTI grabbed 5, while the PML-N secured 3 seats in the province.

Out of 274 seats in Lahore unofficial results for 265 have come out. In Lahore PML-N won 220 slots, PTI 12 and independent candidates got 31 seats.

In Faisalabad unofficial results for 274 seats out of 468 have been announced. PML-N secured 100 seats and PTI 28 while independent candidates won 145 slots.

As the unofficial results poured in, winning candidates and their jubilant supporters across Sindh and Punjab celebrated victories by dancing to the drum beats and party songs.

Furthermore, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered re-polling in 2 UCs, 17 Wards in Punjab and 2 UCs, 4 Wards in Sindh due to various complaints.
