LAHORE - Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has expressed concerns over Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) decision to install Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as prime minister, Dawn News reported.
This decision to elevate Shehbaz to the office of PM will shift the focus of the government from development to election campaigns as he has to contest by-polls from NA-120 to be a member of the National Assembly, he stated during a meeting in Murree on Monday.
Referring to Nawaz Sharif's disqualification by the Supreme Court, he said that the party should not waste its energy on a 45-day election game, which has been imposed last Friday.
Talking to Dawn News, he said that party leadership has assured him of considering his suggestion seriously.
During the meeting, he also informed the party leadership of legal steps that can be taken to overturn Panama verdict as an error of judgement.
Quoting an example of retired Justice Iftikhar Cheema, who was disqualified on concealing assets after being elected in 2013 from NA-101, but later he had been permitted to participate in the by-elections during last year, he highlighted that Nawaz Sharif was not disqualified for life, adding that Nawaz might take part in electoral politics.
Some new channels are also reported that the ruling party is seriously considering the suggestions to not elevate Shehbaz Sharif to PM's office and complete the remaining tenure with interim Prime Minister Abbasi.
