ASF foils drug smuggling bid at Lahore Airport

LAHORE — The Airport Security Force (ASF) on Tuesday foiled a bid to smuggle drugs outside the country at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

A passenger was arrested from a Jeddah-bound flight after contraband was found in his possession, said Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).

The suspect was identified as Waseem Shah and during a search, the drugs were recovered from his bag’s secret compartment.

The contraband was seized by the Airport Security Force (ASF) and accused was handed over to Anti Narcotics Force.

Last month, the customs officers arrested a man from Lahore airport who was trying to smuggle 1Kg of Crystal methamphetamine, more popularly known ‘Ice and Glass’ worth millions to United Arab Emirates (UAE).

On January 10, a Czech woman was arrested from Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, after she tried to smuggle 9kg heroin.

Moreover, Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Punjab claimed to have arrested 451 accused and registered 402 cases against the drug smugglers in the year 2018.

According to ANF spokesman, the teams of ANF recovered 213.778 Kg heroin, 1479.522 Kg charas and 385.355 Kg opium from the possession of arrested accused.
