FIA arrests human smugglers involved in abduction of Pakistanis in Turkey

ISLAMABAD – The human smugglers behind abduction of four Pakistanis in Turkey have been traced by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and two of them were arrested from Gujranawala here on Tuesday.

The detained smugglers have been identified as Afzal and Sohail, both brothers and residents of Gujranwala, according to FIA sources.

The investigative agency also unearthed how smugglers managed to blackmail their clients. One of the detained Afzal used to take people to Greece via Turkey while Sohail abducted them in Turkey.

Afzal then used to contact families while Sohail recorded horrific videos in which abductees were being brutally tortured. The videos were then sent to families for demanding ransom money.

An FIA team under the supervision of Deputy director Khalid Anees met the families of the abductees. and gathered information from them regarding the smugglers.

On the other hand, the Foreign office confirmed on Monday that four Pakistani, residents of Gujranwala were abducted by human traffickers in Turkey. Reportedly, the kidnappers have demanded ransom of Rs 2 million for each abductee currently stranded in Turkey.

The foreign office further claimed that necessary measures were being taken by Pakistani diplomatic authorities in Istanbul and Ankara on the issue. It further said that the Turkish authorities were abreast of the situation and were cooperating with the government of Pakistan in this regard.
