KARACHI (Staff Report) – An alleged terrorist in detention has “confessed” that he was planning to kidnap the son of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Asad Ali Shah. The detainee said, however, that he failed to execute the plot.
The terrorist, who has also admitted to having links with al-Qaeda, told investigators that two accomplices, Zain Ansar and Anwar Kamil were also involved in the planning. The terrorists were planning to demand a huge ransom for Asad Ali Shah’s release.
The collected funds were to be transferred to al-Qaeda’s sub-continent branch, which maintains an effective presence in Karachi.
The suspect also conceded to collecting sacrifice hides, zakat, fitrana and other charity funds for al-Qaeda from Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
He also revealed that he had stalked Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Waseem Akhtar on the orders of a regional commander of the al-Qaeda in Indian Sub-continent (AQIS).
The suspected terrorist was arrested in a search operation in the jurisdiction of Preedy Police Station jurisdiction some days back. He is currently being interrogated by the Police.
