ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that pre-poll rigging has begun in the country.
Apparently hinting at the court verdict against him in the Panamagate case, Nawaz said that the rigging began the day when he was disqualified for life and barred from holding any office in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
He was talking to journalists outside the accountability court hearing corruption cases against members of Sharif family.
“Suo motu notice is taken on every issue,” he said, questioning why action was not taken when his party members were being forced to jump ships to other parties.
The PML-N’s candidates were deprived of party tickets during the Senate elections, he lamented.
Responding to a question regarding the purported book of Reham Khan, former wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Nawaz said that he did not know about the issue, adding that Imran Khan would know better.
The 2018 general elections are set to be held on July 25 under the caretaker government headed by interim Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk.
