Pillion riding banned in Karachi for Youm-e-Ali

KARACHI: The Sindh government has imposed a one-day ban on pillion riding as part of the security arrangements for Youm-e-Ali being observed today in all over the country ith religious fervour and reverence.

The martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (AS) is observed on 21st of Ramazan every year.

In its letter, the home department stated that the decision to ban the pillion riding was taken after additional inspector generals (AIGs) of Karachi and Hyderabad requested for it in order to maintain law and order situation.

According to the notification, the ban will came into force from Wednesday 12 am and will last until midnight on Thursday.

The pillion riding ban will not affect “women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies/ security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services,” the notification added.

To mark the day, mourning processions would be taken out in the city and ‘Majalis-e-Aza’ will be held at mosques and Imambargahs.
